QRT: A Holistic Approach to Overdose Intervention in Mercer County, WV

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is actively involved in the Quick Response Team (QRT) program, a multi-faceted initiative designed to address the overdose crisis in our community. This innovative approach goes beyond immediate medical response, focusing on long-term recovery and support for those affected by addiction.

QRT: A Three-Pronged Approach Enhanced

  • Social Workers: Provide crucial support and resources, connecting individuals with treatment options, counseling, and other essential services.
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS): Deliver lifesaving medical care during overdose events and transport individuals to appropriate facilities for further treatment.
  • Law Enforcement: Offer a compassionate and supportive presence, focusing on connecting individuals with help rather than punitive measures.
  • Region 6 Enhancement: In our region, we’ve expanded the QRT model to include faith-based and recovery-centered support, offering a holistic and comprehensive approach to intervention.

Benefits of QRT

  • Reduced Overdose Deaths: Timely intervention and access to treatment can significantly decrease the risk of fatal overdoses.
  • Increased Engagement in Treatment: QRT fosters connections with support services, encouraging individuals to seek and sustain recovery.
