The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office’s Judicial Security Division is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all individuals who enter our courthouses. Our highly-trained officers work diligently to protect judges, court personnel, attorneys, and the public, ensuring the administration of justice can proceed without disruption.

Security Screening

All individuals entering the courthouse are subject to security screening to ensure everyone’s safety. This includes:

  • X-ray Scanning: All bags and personal belongings will be scanned.
  • Metal Detection: All individuals will pass through a metal detector.

Prohibited Items

The following items are strictly prohibited inside the courthouse:

  • Weapons: Firearms, knives, or any other dangerous weapons.
  • Pepper Spray/Mace: Chemical irritants are not permitted.
  • Illegal Drugs: Possession or use of illegal drugs is prohibited.

Tips for Expedited Security Screening

To help speed up the security process, please:

  • Bring Only Essentials: Leave unnecessary items in your vehicle. This includes large bags, backpacks, and bulky outerwear.
  • Prepare for Screening: Remove keys, cell phones, and metal objects from your pockets and place them in the provided bins for scanning.
  • Follow Officer Instructions: Cooperate with security officers and follow their instructions.

Hours of Operation

The Judicial Security Division operates during the following hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Closed: On all state and federal holidays

Corrections Officer Responsibilities

Our Corrections Officers play a vital role in judicial security. Their responsibilities include:

  • Processing and Handling Prisoners: Managing the intake, transport, and custody of all prisoners entering and exiting the courthouse.
  • New Arrestee Processing: Booking and processing individuals who have been arrested.
  • Court Prisoner Security: Ensuring the safe and orderly presence of prisoners in courtrooms.
  • Transportation: Transporting prisoners between the jail and courthouse.
  • Mental Hygiene Transports: Assisting with the safe transportation of individuals in need of mental health evaluations or treatment.
