Higginbotham, who has joined our Sheriff's Office and is currently participating in our Field Training Program. ⭐ Correction Officer M. Phillips, who has begun training with our Corrections Division. ⭐ Animal Control Officer W. Smith, who is now serving alongside our Animal Control team. On Tuesday, all three were officially sworn into their positions after taking their Oaths of Office before the County Commission. 🎉 Congratulations, Captain Reed, on Your Retirement! 🎉 Today, we celebrate an incredible career and a lifetime of service. Captain Reed has dedicated more than 42 years to serving our agency and the citizens of Mercer County. He began his career in the early 1980s at just 22 years old as a corrections officer in the Mercer County Jail. A few years later, he was hired as a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff D.B. Meadows. Throughout his distinguished career, Captain Reed faithfully served in many roles, including road patrol, bailiff, detective, and Operations Commander, leaving a lasting impact on our department and the community. Please join us in thanking Captain Reed for his remarkable service and wishing him all the best in this well-earned retirement. 👏 Congratulations, Captain Reed, and THANK YOU for 42 years of dedicated service! We are forever grateful for your commitment to Mercer County and wish you happiness, health, and many new adventures in retirement.

Where do I park when I arrive?

The Mercer County Courthouse has parking available on the street around the building. 

What types of items are not allowed in the Courthouse?

Weapons, such as firearms, knives, tasers, etc., and drugs and drug paraphernalia are not permitted on Courthouse grounds. 

Do I have to go through security to enter the Courthouse?

When entering the Courthouse, you will be asked to place any handbags, purses, totes, along with anything in your pockets into the scanner before walking through a metal detector. 

How do I pay my personal property taxes?

Personal property taxes can be paid:

  • Online at http://mercer.softwaresystems.com/index.html
  • Mailing a check with your tax bill to the address on the bill.
  • In person at:
    • The Mercer County Courthouse: 1501 East Main St., Princeton, WV 24740, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM—4:30 PM. Closed on Holidays.
