PRESS RELEASE Following an extensive investigation conducted by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Bureau, an arrest has been made in connection with a series of commercial burglaries that occurred throughout Mercer County. Between December 2, 2025, and December 30, 2025, multiple businesses located in the Bluewell, Bluefield, and Bramwell areas were burglarized. Investigators determined that in each incident, forced entry was made into the business and cash and merchandise were stolen. In several cases, electrical service to the businesses was intentionally disrupted prior to entry, resulting in the loss of lighting and surveillance capabilities. Through coordinated investigative efforts, deputies identified a suspect believed to be connected to the burglaries. On January 7, 2026, deputies with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office arrested Eli Mahoney, a 35-year-old male of Brushfork, West Virginia. Mahoney has been charged with three counts of Breaking and Entering, two counts of Grand Larceny, one count of Attempt to Commit a Felony, and three felony offenses related to the disruption of electrical service. Investigators believe that at least two additional individuals were involved in these incidents. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional arrests have been made at this time. All criminal charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office or Mercer County 911. Information may be provided confidentially.

Update 12/15/25 @ 4pm. U.S. 52 now open. Fire still on scene in Bluewell
